Kirby Medical Center Health & Wellness Fair

  • Posted On:

Last Thursday, Kirby Medical Center hosted its annual Health and Wellness Fair at the Therapy & Wellness Center. This was a two-hour event that allowed families to learn about a variety of community resources, get ready to head back to school, and just have some all-around fun! You may previously know this event as the Back to School Health and Wellness Fair, but this year we decided to revamp the event as the Kirby Connection Health and Wellness Fair, gearing it more towards all ages.

When guests arrived, they were able to enter to win a variety of back-to-school themed raffle baskets. These baskets contained items such as, Amazon Fire tablets, a Chromebook, water bottles, back to school goodies and more! To show our appreciation for teachers and all that they do for students in our communities, we also put together a teacher themed basket. Teachers were able to enter to win and we also gave students the option to nominate their favorite teacher. Congratulations to Megan Howell, Griffin Lee and Hannah Grady on winning!

We understand that school expenses can add up fast, which is why each year we try to have a school supply store setup at this event. In the weeks leading up to the health fair, Monticello Christian Church graciously collected school supply donations, allowing us to hand out free supplies to students in our community.

Once attendees made it through the free school supply store, they were also able to visit different vendor tables. Some of the tables were very interactive including HMD Taekwondo, who taught people how to perform board breaking while the KMC Nursing table had stuffed animal checkups! A great thing about this event is the opportunity to help connect community members with a variety of health and wellness related resources that they otherwise may not know are available.

The fun didn’t stop there! Flour and Fire food truck was at the event, giving attendees the opportunity to grab woodfired pizza for dinner. While eating, guests could enjoy live music from Lexi Tieffel. Lexi is a talented young singer who has donated her time to KMC events on multiple occasions. We are grateful for her generosity and for sharing her talent with us. She will be preforming next at the Mahomet Music Festival on August 23rd!

Kirby Ambulance also joined us for this event with one of our ambulances on site. Guests had the opportunity to check out the truck and get a little tour. It’s always fun to get a behind the scenes and up-close look at the trucks!

To show thanks to attendees for coming out and joining us for this event, Kirby treated attendees to free Kona Ice and free inflatables! Thank you, Kona Ice of Decatur and Action Inflatables, for attending the health fair making this possible.

We want to thank everyone who attended or helped with the health and wellness fair. A special thanks to KMC Active for allowing us to use their space and to our facilities team who helped setup and tear down. We also want to thank Leslie Sheets, Emily Torrenga, and Jeff Hayes for volunteering. Leslie and Emily are on staff here at Kirby, and Jeff is a member of Kirby Auxiliary.  In addition, if you attended the event, you may have noticed a new face as you came in. Marcie Albrecht is Kirby’s new Community Outreach Director. She volunteered her time to help setup and tear down the event and welcomed guests as they came in. We are excited to have Marcie as part of the KMC team!

Everyone at KMC had a blast at this year’s event! Thank you again to everyone who came out, all our great vendors, KMC staff, and volunteers who made the health fair possible. We look forward to seeing you next year and are wishing you a very happy school year!
