Men’s Health: Waking Up Exhausted? It Could Be Sleep Apnea
- Posted On:
Sleep apnea is a condition that robs your body of real rest, which could explain why you feel like your mind and body haven’t recharged.
It’s serious and common and occurs when your upper airway becomes blocked, or your brain isn’t sending the proper signals to breathe – causing you to repeatedly stop and restart breathing while you sleep.
Obesity, large tonsils and hormone changes can increase your risk of sleep apnea. If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, it’s important to talk to your doctor. Sleep apnea can be life threatening, and it can increase your risk for other medical conditions.
Feeling exhausted, even after a full night of rest
Loud snoring
Someone notices you stop breathing during sleep
Waking up choking or gasping
Sore throat or dry mouth when you wake up
Trouble focusing
