Kirby Medical Center Celebrates National Rural Health Day!

Today, November 21, is National Rural Health Day (NRHD)! Since 2011, this day is celebrated every third Thursday of November in honor of healthcare providers, State Offices of Rural Health, and all other rural stakeholders that are working towards addressing healthcare challenges that rural communities experience. Beyond NRHD is a movement of the “Power of Rural,” which emphasizes the impact of rural healthcare on all those who live and work in rural communities.

The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) highlights the importance of NRHD, as rural communities experience several disparities when it comes to healthcare, including limited access, provider shortages, and an aging population with complex health needs. As such, rural hospitals are dedicated to addressing the needs of their patients while also taking steps towards addressing health disparities. Providing excellent care close to home is imperative, and among many of Kirby Medical Center’s efforts to do so are growing satellite clinics with more services offered in different rural locations, allowing for easier access to healthcare.

In her role as Director of Community Outreach, Marcie Albrecht is very passionate about doing all she can to address Piatt County’s health needs. In recognition of NRHD, Marcie shared, “Rural communities are the heart of America, but they often face unique challenges. National Rural Health Day honors the tireless efforts of healthcare professionals and advocates who ensure quality care reaches every individual, no matter where they live. Today, we especially thank our dedicated Kirby Medical Center staff, whose commitment to our rural community brings high-quality care to our patients every day.”

Across Piatt County, Kirby Medical Center employees go above and beyond to meet the needs of patients within our rural community. We give a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for all you do to put Piatt County patients first. From fostering community within the walls of KMC to making this organization patient-centered and everything in between, you make a significant impact on rural health.

Today, let us come together to recognize all that we have accomplished as an organization in serving our rural community, and all that we will continue to do. That is the Power of Rural.
