Importance of Mammograms: Early Detection Saves Live

Kirby Medical Group Family Physician, Lauren Fore, MD, shares her thoughts on the importance of mammograms:

“I’d like to share about the importance of the early detection of breast cancer, and how we can achieve this. Mammograms are an essential tool, and they play a critical role in early breast cancer detection. By using low-energy X-rays, they can identify tumors that are too small to be felt during a physical exam. Early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment, often leading to less aggressive therapies and better outcomes.

For most women, we recommend starting annual mammograms at age 40. If someone has a family history of breast cancer, then they should talk to their doctor about when they should start their screenings.

Getting a mammogram is quick, and it generally only takes about 15-30 minutes. Here at Kirby, we have a great team that can assist in the scheduling and the completion of your screening.

Mammograms not only save lives but also empower women to take charge of their health, making informed decisions about their care. So, please schedule your mammogram, and encourage your friends and family to get their screenings done too!”

The Kirby Imaging Department will be offering mammograms every Saturday morning in October. Making it more convenient for those who work during the week. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 217-762-1651.
