Celebrating the Kirby Auxiliary: Pillars of Support at Kirby Medical Center
At the heart of Kirby Medical Center's commitment to exceptional healthcare lies the unwavering support of the Kirby Auxiliary—a dedicated group of over 200 volunteers who selflessly contribute their time and talents to enhance patient care and community well-being.
A Legacy of Service and Fundraising
Since its inception, the Kirby Auxiliary has been instrumental in supporting the medical center through various service and fundraising initiatives. One of their cornerstone efforts is the operation of the Gift Shop located in the hospital's promenade. This charming shop offers a diverse array of merchandise, including candy, clothing, greeting cards, home décor, seasonal decorations, collectibles, jewelry, and books. The Gift Shop is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM. All profits are donated to the hospital equipment fund, enabling the purchase of essential medical equipment such as monitoring devices, machines for processing x-rays, and defibrillators.
In addition to the Gift Shop, the Auxiliary organizes biannual thrift sales, an annual card party for members and guests, and various product sales and events. These activities not only foster community engagement but also generate funds that are reinvested into the medical center, ensuring the continuation of high-quality healthcare services.
Empowering Future Healthcare Professionals
The Kirby Auxiliary is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of healthcare providers. Each year they provide scholarships of at least $1,000 each to Piatt County students who are pursuing their college education in a medical field. Additionally, they award the Thomas Dixon Memorial Scholarship to students within the Kirby Medical Center service area who are pursuing careers in health-related fields.
Community Engagement and Volunteerism
Beyond fundraising, Auxiliary members actively participate in community service. They collaborate with Impact Life to host blood donation drives every eight weeks, contributing to the region's blood supply and patient care needs.
The Auxiliary also hosts annual events, such as luncheons that bring together members, guests, and scholarship recipients. For instance, the 2024 luncheon saw the Auxiliary presenting a $22,000 check to support the Kirby Wellness Trail's landscaping project, enhancing the hospital's environment for patients and visitors alike.

The Kirby Auxiliary welcomes new members year-round. Annual dues are $15, with a lifetime membership option available for $100. Volunteers can engage in various activities, including assisting with blood drives, fundraising sales, gift shop operations, and more.
