The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. "Our 88-year-old mother was a patient at your hospital recently. She had new health issues that we were dealing with, and your nurses were amazing. They explained everything to us and made us feel like family. Our mother’s comfort was of utmost importance and Julie was particularly patient and understanding. She made us feel right at home asking questions and kept us informed. It was obvious that nursing was her calling. She stood out to us and regularly went above and beyond to help our mother and all of us through this difficult time."
